Dear person currently trying to hack datayze.com,
You may not be aware, injection attacks are easy to detect when the injection includes characters atypical of expected user input. All one needs to detect such attacks is a single line regular expression to spot the foreign characters. You may not have anticipated this, but Datayze silently alerts me when any such attempt is detected. What should have occurred to you is that Datayze escapes user input so each hacking attempt was certain to fail anyway. It should not have taken you 542 attempts to reach this conclusion.

Overheard this morning
Nicole to Alexis: Mommy really needs to get work done. We should try to do more stuff on our own.
Alexis: ðŸ‘
Remote learning is hard. It started hard, it’s still hard. I simultaneously feel like we’re in the best possible spot to make it work and like we’re drowning. Sending virtual love out there to anyone also struggling. â¤ï¸ You are not alone.

I made a thing! Domingo took a vacation day today so he could watch the kids and I could get some work done. (Well, as much work as possible given our two year old still knew I was still somewhere in the house.)
With three kids at home we've been doing a ton of worksheets. Well, I got tired of searching for free worksheets, so I started making generators to create them. Here's a Venn Diagram Worksheet generator for shapes & colors.

This past month has been hard. Revenue from Sarah Tyler Digital was down 54% from the same time last year, 75% from my highest point. Even more demoralizing, for the first time since I started my business five years ago I've had a significant drop in users. I know I'm lucky. Overhead is low, so there isn't much fear of needing to shutter the business. But it's still been a struggle. With the kids home I haven't been able to work on my business like I used to, and that's been such a large part of my identity for the past five years. I feel like a part of myself is missing.

Alexis wanted to do some worksheets like Nicole. She's a little young for the math fact worksheets, so I created this alphabet one that lets you fill in the blanks and match capitals to lower cases. According to Alexis it's "the most funnest thing ever!" She may have been exaggerating, but it was preferable to bedtime which was the alternative at the time. 😉

Speaking of the math fact worksheets, I now have a subtraction test generator. It includes our school districts standard for kindergarten, first and second grade. I'll add third grade level problems soon.

Comments, questions and concerns are always welcomed.
I’m writing code that writes code that writes code, while having a head cold. Fear me or fear for me?
I either found a brilliant solution to my database problem, or I'm about to bring my entire system crashing to the ground.

I updated the Addition Time Test Generator so you can now specify whether to include problems with carry over/regrouping when generating an individual fact test. There's also a list of short cuts at the bottom of the page to generate common tests. If you're in Nicole's class, "Individual Facts Without Regrouping" is level A, and "Individual Facts With Regrouping" is level B.

The past couple of weeks I've been working on some new animation for Datayze's main page. It meant relearning trigonometry on an average of about 4 hours of sleep a night (yay, parenthood!), but still worth it. I am ridiculously proud of the results. Nicole has also been asking me what I do, and it was nice to have something to show her. 🙂

Shout out to my anyone working from home whose toddler just replaced 800 lines of code with " Q!" Thank goodness for judicious backups.
